Adding to my position.  This was a pretty solid earnings report.  Revenue was down on a one-time charge, EPS exceeded by .02.  Got a 7% discount on the stock.  Apparently the concern was flat December sales - and the excuse was bad weather.  I know the Midwest is having weather from 40 years ago, so I'll accept the excuse.

MCD has plenty of exposure to foreign markets.  God knows I've seen them in the UK, France, Sweden, Australia, Norway, Denmark, Netherlands, New Zealand, etc.  And the McCafe idea seems to be sticking.  Seems like another safe stock.

I saw the CEO of Burger King get interviewed on CNBC the other day from Davos.  He posited that Burger King is in a good position if there is indeed an economic downturn.  His stated theory is that in a recession, all of the "Appleby's" customers won't stop eating out, they'll just take it down a notch and go to Burger King.

Good call about MCD. Burguer King is a really disappointing business. Their restaurants are really out of date and MCD are working on reshaping all theirs. I believe this stock has more up than down. I don't buy the comment from the CEO of Burguer King.

But he was close...  They just won't be going to BK.  I think that downscale joints with the right business plan are close to recession proof.  But the restaraunt business is not really an area I'm familiar with.

I'm in MCD because of its exposure to foreign markets first; but also its rate of foreign growth and its willingness to at least try to expand its brand.
