REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 8, 2009-- Microvision, Inc. (NASDAQ:MVIS), a global leader in innovative ultra-miniature projection display and image-capture products for mobility applications, announced today that it has secured an initial purchase order for a global consumer electronics OEM to private-label its PicoP® display engine-based accessory laser pico projector. This purchase order is tied to a marketing and distribution agreement Microvision announced recently with an Asian distribution partner who also has purchased Microvision’s branded product, the SHOWWX™, for distribution within the Asia-Pacific region. (See Microvision press release, “Microvision Receives Purchase Order and Begins Shipping World’s First Laser Pico Projector, SHOWWX,” September 30, 2009.) The Asian distribution partner and global consumer electronics OEM are both planning their own marketing launch activities and will provide specific details regarding timing and locations for initial product availability in the near future. Microvision has begun shipping units to fulfill both customers.

“We are extremely pleased to receive our first purchase order to private label the PicoP based accessory laser pico projector,” said Alexander Tokman, President and CEO of Microvision. “Having a global consumer electronics player, which is targeting a new mobile communication device strategy, attach their name to our product strongly validates the performance and quality of our first laser projector offering. On the heels of announcing our first shipments of the SHOWWX laser pico projector, and receiving the purchase order from an international distributor, this is another significant milestone in our go-to-market strategy.”

I wanted to place this bit of news at the top of this blog because it is significant accomplishment.

Augmented Reality 2.0

It is interesting to observe first hand the rapid rate of technological change with regard to portable mobile devices. The future is bright for augmented reality devices. Ori Inbar thinks of augmented reality as, "Reality 2.0."  He has dedicated much thought on this subject. I would like to suggest viewing his web site to learn more about the future of augmented reality.

A company that will play a central role in all of this is Microvision. Why? Because they have the patent portfolio and partners to bring to market, high volume consumer products that include accessory laser pico projectors, and embedded laser projectors for media devices, cellphones, automotive head up displays, digital cameras, etc..

"Microvision was recognized as one of the top 20 electronics companies worldwide in patent pipeline power for the second consecutive year by IEEE, a prestigious technical organization. Microvision was ranked 2nd in number of citations by other patents, a key IEEE metric to measure patent strength and value."

Also being developed is HD-3D eyeware  for  an augmented reality experience. The world will demand a better viewing experience from their mobile devices. A small display will give way to wearable display devices and laser projection enabled devices, with infinite focus, no optical lens required, low power, small foot print, high resolution. Microvision meets these requirements today for "information on the run."

Will the CEO, Alex Tokman succeed in his plans to launch the ShowWX projector this summer 2009?
So far he has delivered on what he has said he is going to do.

Until recently the pico projector has never existed. This is a new disruptive product for the mobile market. Microvision has Corning, Asia Optical, and Walsin Lihwa as manufacturing partners.

Urban Leader Tactical Response, Awareness & Visualization (ULTRA-Vis)

Microvision receives $1,000,000 from Lockeed Martin to develop eyeware for the military. Eyeware in urban and asymmetric warfare  environments will benefit soldiers with better communication and improved situational awareness.
