It has been a little over a month since I have jumped into the gauntlet known as the market. In that time, I have seen the Dow jump 100's of points in a matter of a week. I have also seen the market practically drop, spooking many half-hearted investors and sending them on their 'bond-toting' merry way. Sure, it is nice to leap out of the risk and into something much more comforting, but when a battle begins, the less hearty run indoors and hide while the soldiers stand and fight. That is how I'd like to view myself, as one of the hearty who are willing to face risk and not blink. As a new investor, you would likely consider me naive to the deathtraps in the market and perhaps I am, but I know they exist and like any adventure junkie, I enjoy the thrill of the gauntlet.
I recently bought shares of CRNT which is Ceragon Networks, a small caps company. You can just about imagine the volatility. 5% to 10% jumps and drops weekly is one heck of a roller coaster ride. The falling market has helped me quite a bit with CRNT. I was able to buy shares for quite a bit under their true value. That will luckily make up for my first round of purchasing their shares at a much higher price. I can now sleep better knowing that my average cost has dropped a good bit.
Now the difference between me and many stock traders is that I buy stock to hold rather than buy to turn around and sell. Now, I am not saying that that is not a great strategy, it is! But one would need a decent amount of capital to buy a large chunk of shares only to wait and see if they will go up those few cents and then sell them all. I might likely do that strategy as well had I the capital, but I don't and so I look to the future and as I see it, the future of my stock looks good and I anticipate outperforming the market by at least 10%. The worse that can happen is that my shares become worthless, but even then... they are worth something somewhere. Time tells all as they say and as long as I have money in my pocket and time on my side, I will go with the riskier stock and wait out the winter because I know eventually the day will come when my stocks will blossom.
