I was asked by someone to post a trading note about "how I knew to get out when I did". The honest answer is I didn't. When I bought it, DRYS looked like it had pulled back to some sort of support, so I took a chance on it. The next day it was up a bit and I was able to sell my shares for a 35% gain. I wanted to lock in my profits. I was more agressive in selling because the options expired in a month. I like to lock in profits. It seems to work. Sometimes you catch the top, as I did with DRYS. Sometimes you don't. I sold my CSIQ options way too soon. I look at annualized gains. If I can lock in a reasonable 10% a week, that's 500% a year (uncompounded).

knowing when to sell is as hard as when to buy. selling with profit and run is even harder. :)

If one can get over the greed and fear that is what makes him a winner at the end of the day.
