Drug companies with no commercial products (i.e. with only product candidates in clinical trials) are dangerous, too.

Drug companies are to NASDAQ what gold/silver/oil/gas/etc. exploration companies are to AMEX.

Any thoughts on DNDN? I'm a holder of DNDN- relatively small % of my portfolio compared to the rest, but in total I only have 4 stocks, so DNDN is 1/4th in that sense.

I have mixed feelings about Motley Fool since the brothers faded out but this link gives a great deal of information about DNDN

yeah. ugh.   wow -60%. It wasn't even their products per se.  Pfizer reported possible lung cancer link to their inhaled insulin, exubera.  It may not even be statistically significant, 6 out of ~4700 vs 1 ~4700 for controls.   That said, I don't think the risk would be worth the comfort/convenience of inhaled insulin vs. injected, at least from a legal/regulatory/moral standpoint.  Then again i'm not currently diabetic.

As someone who works in research, I think few people grasp just how long biological research takes and how little reward it usually gives.  Biological systems are so complex, experimental research leads to results bordering on randomness simply because it's very difficult to control for EVERYthing.   In addition, troubleshooting experimental problems can take weeks/month versus say computer problems where a lot(though certainly not all) can be resolved in hours/days.

 /endrant lol
