Trade Ideas - long term hold and buys

VRTX - a company i've followed for years now. Their future depends on one drug-and I've always been hesitant to dive in because its make or break. But results released from/during phase II recently make for a rosier picture. Im thinking about buying stock for the long haul now-this has potential to turn into a very good longer term investment.

CROX - Can the stock be any more beaten down than after it was today? Well of course, but even with lower sales due to recession, this stock has a proven product and has been absolutely RIPPED. I guess the question is can they come up with other successful products? (By the way I've watched this slide a LOOOONG WAY, i guess I'm thinking this may FINALLY be the bottom)

Thoughts?

I thought CROX was crazy at $50 then it went to $75 before the plunge.  Seriously the shoes(?) have loyal followers, including my wife.  However they are UGLY!  They  seem to wear like iron thereby reducing replacement purchases.  Everybody and their brother is making knock offs at greatly reduced prices.  Buying little do-dads to poke in the holes for decoration doesn't even appeal to my wife.

One drug companies and greedy lawyers can be a bad mix reguardless of testing.

Now that I have rained on your parade let me praise you for the stock selections that you have made and  your willingness to share them and your thoughts will all of us.  Thanks.

I would never invest or trade in a pharma stock. You can get blindsided with bad news at any time. Not worth it.

And sooner or later clown shoes will no longer be in style. Those shoes are HIDEOUS. You could not pay me to wear them, much less get me to purchase them.

I agree with both of you- one reason i haven't pulled the trigger on vrtx is because it can get canned at any time. the stock has been as high as 40...but on the flip side, a smart investment is a smart investment -GILD, CELG, DNA were all smaller biotechs at one time. The upside is as large as the downside-this company is riding on this one drug and one drug alone.

As for crox-well, I dont own the shows, but I see how popular they are...and the type of environment we are in now is toxic for consumer stocks-like crox. I'm simply looking at this as an oversold stock-a play once again on market sentiment and emotion gone overboard on a stock. Then again, someone might have thought that when crox was in the 30s or 20s!

probably the best thing to do with vrtx would be to buy some LEAP options-put a few hundred bucks out there and speculate.
