8% day for me

What a day. Currently holding apple, ceo, fmcn stock and wlt 65 may calls. up up up. Apple continues to prove all the naysayers wrong by blowing through 145-6, ceo is now nearing my sell, fmcn, well, fmcn has a long way to go before I make my lot back, and the wlt calls appreciated nicely. left it all on the table for tomorrow, maybe longer (apple definately longer). Hope everyone else had a good day as well!

Very happy to say that YTD I'm up %14.7, beating the market nicely. That's good money for a starving graduate student like myself!

Let me ask - is it "realised" gain of 8% or "paper" one? DO you cheer because you put money in the pocket? If not - how can you be so confident that Mr. Mighty Market will not take paper gains away on Thursday? I recall millions of people back in 2000 been up 10% a day for 20 days in a row - did they KEEP THOSE PROFITS? Not my intention to be meen - just seen ( not all ) a lot...

Here is what financial will do tomorrow on close - they will go down, most likely,, hitting downsloping price channel back from October 07( if I knew - I would not be still trading for living ) . Does any human really think that FED grabbing even more power, Paulson plan, Housing Commitee Crooked Cheef, Academic Ben, falling dollar, no domestic production, falling house prices and been a debt nation - does anyone think it spells "BULL MARKET"? Keep your money safe...that is a tough one when even Money Markets starting to collapse.

First of all, I have zero exposure to the financial sector, and if it starts to slide heavily I'll buy puts on xlf, second, most of my gains are unrealized-but that doesn't mean I can't be happy about the moves today. I'm up for the year when the markets are down, so I'll stick to my trading philosophy. I don't believe in the doom sayers here, but I'm not worried if the market trades sideways or even goes down. There is always money to be made in every kind of market.

You are dead on! As long as you keep a close eye on your money/ positions - you are relatively safe ( Unless someone is leveraged above belief and gp down day will kill his holdings ) - and you don't sound like one :)

One thing thou - even if you are not INVESTED directly in financial ( applaud for not kicking TMA around for suicidal day trade), in the coutry/market like American, where we have finance based economy - you/your portfolio ARE exposed no matter what you invest/short

You do not believe the doom sayers, I like that. What part do you not believe?

People spending 15% less. Hyper-inflation, just wait and see. Over a million jobs already lost in the financial sector and probably close to 4 million in the construction sector. Besides the fact that the consumer is already financed to 110% of credit. Would you like some more impressive #'s?

Apple is a good company, yet I noticed that all tech stocks seem to go down this time of year. Good luck on your trading and remember the dollar lost almost 8% since November.

well, being young, I can afford to have a high risk tolerance. I would not be making these moves with an IRA or if I had a mortgage and/or kids.

I agree that we have a finance based economy, but I also believe that the market rewards companies that have strong fundamentals (in the long term). My cost basis for apple is low, I did not buy this company at 200, I look for large dips in sound companies and am willing to hold. This is not a bubble, apple does not even have a forward p/e of over 30 (RIMM i believe is over 50). I already have a gain on apple, I like and have experience with their products and their mac share (still the most important product) is growing domestically and globally.

The economy is not good, but regulatory bodies are much smarter than they were in the 30's or even 70's. I know there has been a lot of fed bashing, and there is a valid argument that the greenspan put led to this mess, but coordinated central bank actions will be effective (they always are). The dollar's weakness is not so bad for companies that do strong international business (as shown by IBM) and perhaps intervention is needed-past currency intervention has been successful with other currencies. Only time will tell whether I'm right with this, but I don't see a deep recession or depression. I don't touch housing and finance sectors, which limits my first order exposure to the problems at the moment. Either way, in an up or down market (i've been long and short) there are ways to make money.

I agree with you, people would be wise to have money in Equities like Apple. It really is about balance. And this company has a strong balance sheet. I have no clue what will happen next. Yet I chosen a path that is working right now. Good luck to you on your trading and lets hope things work themselves out in the long run. Congratulations on your gains today.
