On Thursday October 23rd at 10:30AM our dog Taffy, lovely active healthy 5 years old Golden Retriever was left for grooming at "XYZ" Kennels "Pet Resort Hotel and Spa".
In less than 2 hours, at 12:15PM, we received a call that "Taffy passed away while in drying cage" ( Shall it be called a "dying" cage?)
The cause of acute (what is so "a-cute" about it?) death is still unknown, UConn Pathology Lab could not find any explanation, results of toxicology will be available no sooner than in 3-6 week.
For the last 4 years our family was going though the chain of sad, undeserved,untimely events - I don't think I have any faith left anymore.

Speaking as a pet owner who has loved and lost and learned to love again, I can only offer you my sincere condolences. The sudden and untimeliness of it does seem odd, but then with animals it can happen that fast too. Have seen it in the horses and dogs that we have owned before.

I am SO sorry for your loss, and like Corbin, can really relate to your emotions.

We lost 'Tessa this past August, having to take that tough trip to the vet with her after she contracted bone cancer and it finally started to visibly affect her.

Since August, a blog-tribute to her has been on my weekly to-do list.  I just can't ever bring myself to do it, ...just as well since my wife Courtney never responds to requests from my blog editor Jude for more recent pictures of the ole girl for the memorial post anyway.

Courtney is a farm girl, too, who has known loss of dog and pony, ...and fish and fowl and you name it through the course of her life.  This one hit extra hard, somehow.  'Tessa was a special lady - but aren't they all?

On the subject of loving again, of course it must happen.  Court didn't wait too long to try to fill the void in our lives, and we've recently adopted a young pup of a Great Dane named Davis.  He makes me smile every day, and even some nights (like last night!) when he refused to admit it was after 1:00am and he HAD to come inside so "the bigdog" could finally get some sleep.

We'll get through OK, my friend.

I sympathize with you. They can become closer than family sometimes.  I wish I knew someone to steer you to who could investigate this further.  If the kennel is at fault, it probably happened before & will likely happen again. Getting to the bottom of it would soften the blow ( a little) for me if that ever happened to this little nut.

David, I'm truly sorry for your loss.  Several months ago my mom and dad had to put their yellow lab Wayne to sleep due to cancer.  I had to go with my mom to the vet when the time had come, my dad couldn't bring himself to go with after going through it already with their previous dog Max.  It was hard on the family and especially hard on my father.

Our own dog - Pele - (a German Shepard whom my wife named after the Hawaiian volcano goddess) is truly a member of our family. 

My thoughts are with you and your family.

Sorry to hear of your loss.  Retrievers are great.  I had a black Lab several years ago.  He was always ready to play.

Sorry for your loss.  Been through it, and it's harder sometimes than losing family.
