Two more reasons to like TCHC

If my last post didn't do it for you:

Link - As of Feb 2008 State Farm, for the most part, no longer writes homeowners policies in Florida.

Link - As of January 2008 Allstate is no longer allowed to write homeowners policies in Florida.

This means that there will be plenty of room for smaller insurers to take some of that business.  Just, be careful to sell before a hurricane. heh.

Of course, just to be clear, I fully expect this to chug along between $12.50 and $13.50 until the next earnings call.  See my previous post if you missed my take on this company:

My post from a few days ago on TCHC.

All I hear about is people taking Allstate to court. Even in N.Y. Maybe I should buy puts on them?

Sounds like TCHC has its hands full. Do they have the capital to take on that much new business?

Well, like I said in my previous post about them, they've got $22 million in cash, zero debt, and growth rates of 30% and 50% over the last two years.  So long as a hurricane doesn't hit, it looks like they'll be doing fine.  I might unload my stock before the hurricane season and buy back in toward the end.  I'm considering going long on this company.  Too bad they don't trade options.

State Farm spent about $4 BILLION (only company to pay all claims) on Homestead Hurricane, thus the reason to no longer insure in Florida.  $22mil is not very much so I would sell at the thought of another hurricane hitting Florida.

I plan on selling on the bumps and getting back in after the hurricane season starts to cool down.

So far as State Farm goes, it is my understanding that they insured 1 in 5 homes in Florida at the time of the hurricanes.  TCHC is a small company picking up some of Allstate and SF's old business.  They've got zero debt, and other than the unknowns of hurricane season, they seem to be growing like wildfire.  I'll play it safe around hurricane season, but I still like the company a lot.
