Rumor UPDATE - BRLC earnings on 2/18 at 4:30 (Holiday?!?!?)

Update: The link below did give a CC time for today 2/18 this morning.  However, since then, the web site has been updated and all information regarding a 2/18 conference call has been removed.  The original post is below.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rumors are rampant that BRLC is going to release earnings on 2/18.  Some people claim to have spotted the release date on etrade and the company's web site.

For me, the web site is currently showing 2/18 at 4:30e.t.: http://phx.corporate-ir.net/phoenix.zhtml?c=146224&p=irol-EventDetails&EventId=1753531

Other people say the web site is giving them a different result or the link won't work for them.  It worked fine for me.  These guys were supposed to release earnings on February 11, but delayed.

I have a horrible history with BRLC.  They've cost me money before.  I went against my judgment and bought more though, and now I'm down again.   I heard they were going to announce earnings on Feb 29th.  Now, it looks like they're going to give some sort of info on the 18th.

Basically, BRLC has been mismanaged in the past, has been on the REG SHO list for ages and ages, and missed earnings and/or delayed earnings multiple times.  Right now, at $1.85, they're trading at a little more than half their book value.  So, at such a discount, I thought obvious buy.  For a $200 investment (100 shares) I thought the odds of the stock going up were worth the limited risk.

But anyway, if there is a CC on Monday, I find it highly unusual.  Why have a CC on a holiday?  Is the company going to be sold and this is an attempt to screw the shorts by catching them off guard?  Are they going to have a huge profit???  ....who knows??  History indicates they usually disappoint, but maybe under their new management (James Li) they're doing better...

Anyways, there's a rumor for those of you that trade BRLC.

I didn't see Tradeking listing any announcements for BRLC on 2/18.

Any opinions?

Yeah, I was a bit taken aback by the earnings delay myself.  I'm in for 150 Shares @ 2.19 Ave.  They have a seriously hot product, the Olevia line of LCD TVs, but it seems they bend over backwards to not thrive off it.  They did hint at good sales numbers in the delay release, but some of the other stuff says "hey, who's running this place?".

I'll see how the CC goes, but I may just set a bracket order and be done with them.

Options are the way to play brlc.  I own 100 shares at about $2.27.  I also own an option for Jan 2010.  If management ever gets their act together, they should go way up.  A double easy.  I was tempted to buy up more options at a low price, butt I have such little faith in their ability to communicate and manage properly.  I figured that with a long-term option I could give them time to either turn a profit or sell the company.  With such a hot product and a billion a year in sales, I don't see them going bankrupt.  If the news on 2/18, or 2/29 (whenever it is) is bad, I'll just buy another 2010 option or two and wash my hands of them until then.  However, if the news is good, I figure we're looking at $4.00+.  If the news is really, really good, we might be looking at $8? ???

Who knows.  Historically, these guys always screw things up.  Let's hope this time is different.

Looks like the rumor is a hoax.  It's still unclear, but loads of people on the Yahoo boards were claiming that e*trade listed today as a cc day.  However, someone else over there claims to have contacted BRLC's PR department, and they denied a CC today.   The link I gave above does appear to come from the official site, but I can't access it through the web site.  I can only access it through the direct link.  Strange.  It is possible to fake such an address, but why would anyone do that?  Weirdness all around.  But, such crazy activity and rumors are not atypical for anyone who follows BRLC.

Yeah, it looks like they had a place holder page with an invalid date up (to be filled in when they know) that they hadn't added to the official calendar yet. Someone guessed the direct URL of it and posted it as fact.
