What's hot in Chinese stocks now

Along with hot utility-stock stories, I'm seeing articles about Chinese stocks everywhere these days - after a short recession hiatus, looks like investors are sniffing opportunity there again. Here are a couple of thought-provoking reads to start YOUR list of potential trading ideas:

Bookmark this one: The Motley Fool's column The Best and Worst Stocks in China by Tim Beyer. Here Beyer regularly reports the latest winning and losing stocks from the Chinese sector, with insightful commentary on each. Reading this should give you a good overall feel for the specific dynamics of this market.

TheStreet.com also shared their Four Stocks for Lovers of Chinese Food recently. These 4 stocks - Zhongpin (HOGS), AgFeed Industries (FEED), American Lorain (ALN) and China Marine Food Group (CMFO) - all stand to benefit from the changing eating habits of China's growing middle class. Their P/E ratios are all considerably lower than other Chinese stocks of comparable market cap and similar American food companies - so maybe a nice value play, too.

Another good overview comes from Investopedia (here reprinted in the SF Gate), China vs. the U.S.: A Race to the Top. This article covers four longer-term shifts in the Chinese economy and culture that investors can take advantage of - like increased Internet usage, high-speed trains and nuclear power.

What interesting Chinese stocks or sectors are you keeping a close eye on, and why?

interesting thoughts about the Chinese food segments. I am starting a group about Chinese stocks here on Tradeking, and also will create a network for my site www.chinaeffect. com if you are interested.

I am focusing on Chinese stocks that can be bought in the US, so all info is helpful. Good updates are available on this site:

Great stuff, dras – thanks for sharing. I’m also familiar with www.cnanalyst.com and also quite hooked to Seeking Alpha’s China stock coverage: http://seekingalpha.com/sector/china-stocks?source=globaldash_sb

Keep us posted about your Chinese-stock groups, too. I see a lot of discussion around our forums on China, so I’d imagine you’ll find quite a few interested participants.
