More financial-graphics eye-candy!

I love this new infographics trend among financial sites. Today’s designers really know how to transform dry financial data into a compelling picture – one that’s both beautiful and often very illuminating. Just thought I’d fill your coffee break today with a few of the better financial infographics I saw this week:

The spider-image to the left depicts the U.S. trade surplus and deficit to specific countries over the last 10 years. You can even step through time and watch the deficit circle to China grow. Cool, huh?

Continuing with the geographic theme, check out this Mint map of America’s most frugal cities in terms of discretionary spending cuts from 2008 – 2009. Scroll down to see which goodies specifically each city cut back on.

If you’re shopping around for a new city with, say more frugal neighbors or better job prospects, this GOOD infographic might come in handy. It shows the U.S. cities with the most or least unemployment currently. As the intro notes: “If you’re looking to start a new life somewhere, may we recommend Oklahoma City?”

Last but not least, in light of oil prices’ recent sharp jump, this infographic is really eye-opening. It shows the top countries from which the U.S. imports oil, and exactly how much. Everyone knows Canada, Russia, and Saudi Arabia are big oil exporters, but I was surprised at some of the other big ones, like Angola.

I found this one at CoolInfographics, where you can find many, many more excellent ones. And share the best ones you find here! There’s always another coffee-break to fill with good stuff, right?

I agree 100% BigDog.

Here's one put to motion found in the NY Times (courtesy of Flowing Data) that depicts the market capitalization changes in the largest financial institutions over the past two years. Since it's a flash video I can't post it here but it's worth a look.

Of course it's always the simple ones that I like the best, like this one below.

Thanks for sharing both of these, golax. The bar chart one looks like another favorite of mine, Jessica Hagy - she does funny Venn diagrams and charts on index cards, and they're all just brilliant. Check her out at http://thisisindexed.com.
