So, here’s a question for you guys: do you or don’t you? Send out holiday cards, that is…Every December I stare down the same conflict: should I gear up for some serious card-writing and stamp-licking and get those holiday cards out the door? How many? Every year I pit my good intentions against time constraints, and every year my holiday-card policy seems to come out differently: one (virtuous) year I pump out reams of hand-written cards like a champ; most years I get nada done and feel a little cruddy about it. How ‘bout you?I got to thinking on this topic after seeing this Reuters article about a few new firms specializing in mass-customization of holiday cards, Moo.com, Zazzle.com and MyCardMaker.com. The first two firms harness Web 2.0 strategies, sponsoring cash-prize contests that have generated thousands of user-generated designs that everyone can then customize with a personal message. Cool, no?
Of course, I like to think a clever e-card is a nice substitute, but the Chicago Sun-Times at least doesn’t agree. Good thing the eco-friendly site Treehugger’s got a good argument for the paper-saving alternative. (They also offered some nice recycled-paper card suggestions, like this one.) And last but not least, the blogosphere never disappoints: here’s a fantastic post (well, tiny post generating a really interesting discussion) about the irony of being a daily blogger who somehow can’t whip out cards every year. Amen to that!
