my aunt Marguerite

aunt_marguerite.pngIf you read my recent shout-out to my cousin Robert Naseef, you’re already a little acquainted with my uncle Donald Montanaro, who played clarinet for 40 years with the Philadelphia Orchestra. I wanted to share this recent newsclip featuring his wife, my aunt Marguerite, who still plays harp with the orchestra. Marguerite recently participated in an orchestra tour through Beijing, re-living a historic first when the Philly Orchestra became the first American orchestra to play in Communist China back in 1973. (You can read all about it here in the Philadelphia Inquirer.)

Go, Aunt Marguerite! She’s always been a very interesting and classy lady, always genuinely interested in what I’m up to and always the very best of dinner companions whenever I’m lucky enough to pass through Philly when she and Uncle Donald are in town.

So far in this blog I’ve given a lot of air-time to the important men in my family, like Robert, Uncle Donald, and especially my Uncle Greg and my Dad. Well, look out, Montanaro ladies! Your time in the sun is coming…I’ll be blogging about you soon enough. After all, where would the Montanaro men be without you?
