Thought it would be time for a little fun.  Over the next 7 years your only allowed to own 1 stock what would that stock be and why?

My selection would be Markel (MKL).  This company is my idea company of how a business should be ran.  They will not write unprofitable insurance just to gain market share.  The working enviorment they have created seems more like a rollback to the 70's where employees were actually loyal.  In my eyes this is partly b/c employees have the power to make things happen and are not bogged down by politics.  As far as management goes, they are some of the brightest in my view with a great sense of humor.  Most importantly when they make mistakes they own up to them, they don't sugercoat the ugly.  Management is very focused in what they want and does not acquire companies just for the sake of acquiring them.  Last but not least they are shareholder friendly!

I'll take Yum Brands. With YUM, you get a good defensive play for the economic slowdown in the US and a fabulous growth play in China. In addition, let's not forget the respectable 2% dividend yield. It's a buy on every dip below $35. Alternativley, write the $35 puts when it's trading above $35.

If you've ever been to Beijing, there's two restaurant chains that dominate the market: McDonalds and KFC. The Chinese love them for their American style menus and atmosphere, and the westerners flock to them for the clean bathrooms and hygenic food preparation.

Microvison (MVIS) is my pick.  I have known about this  company for more than 11 years.
Since 2006 they have the best CEO running the company and top manufacturing partners who have joined with Microvision to produce high volume consumer products for a variety of vertical markets. This will all come together with the release of their newest product.

Great excitement is building to see the release of the ShowWX Pico accessory laser projector. Expected timing is "This summer.",  based on comments from  Microvision. The product will be sold by Microvision and their distribution channels. See this catalog web page by Projectorcentral.com.

The goal is for MIcrovision to license their product, to be the "Intel Inside" consumer products, regarding their integrated photonics light engine, (IPM), of which they have over 150 patents. The IPM engine uses a single  MEMs mirror system to raster paint one pixel at a time, red, green and blue laser light in order to create a high resolution, full color laser projection image, offering infinite focus, no optical lens, small foot print for embedding in cellphones, digital cameras, head up displays, notebook computers, mobile media player, wearable displays.

Corning, Asia Optical, Walsin Lihwa are their manufacturing partners.
Motorola is also a Microvision partner.

Please note Apple has named Microvision in one of their recent patent filings. It is my personal wish to see Apple as one of Microvision's partners.  Do you think an iphone could use an embedded laser projector?
By the way 1.3 billion cellphones are made each year.

Good luck to all.

I'd chose GE. Very safe, nice yield. Once the economy picks up, the price will rise nicely, as will the yield. They've been doing a lot of business lately in almost all their divisions. Still, cutting their dividend after they said they wouldn't pissed me off.

MVIS - Hmmmm. Green microlasers are not yet feasible but they are working on it. Ref: Scientific American Apr 2009. I don't know if they will be commercially viable in 7 years, but it'll be close. This could very well be a very good call. I'll look into this one further for a long term investment, or a possible takeover target.

PS .. OOOOH big drop .. this has possibilities...... No options, too small, not my style. But then again, I go against my own style regularly. I'll dig deeper later, I"m too drunk atm.
