Technically a precious metal bullion producer, the U.S. Mint is also an online dealer via their online catalog at http://catalog.usmint.gov  After all this is were it all begins for the U.S. bullion coins. The best deals for any new issue will be found here, no doubt about it. In todays bullion coin market very good gains can be realized by simply buying a new issue and holding it for six months to a year. Many issues there is no wait at all. For instance the recent 2007-W Silver American Eagle $1 (1oz silver) Uncirculated coin which is now sold out could be purchased via the mint for $21.95 and immediately listed on ebay where most "ungraded" listings are fetching minimum of $28 to $30. That's roughly at least 20% instant gain. You may ask, "Why don't people just buy from the mint?" Good question, I have no answer. That particular issue, now being sold out, should increase in value over the years. Hint: The 2007-W Silver American Eagle Proofs, still available as of today at the mint for $31.95, are seeing similar immediate increases in value on aution sites.

The Mint has a new 1/2oz .999 gold coin series started last year called the First Spouse Series. There will be a Uncirculated & Proof coin for each issue. The newest issue is Elizabeth Monroe and the prices are 599.95 & 619.95 respectively. These newest prices are up quite a bit over the last issue, the Dolley Madison, which sold at 509.95 & 529.95. The Uncirculated Dolley Madison sales were stopped a couple weeks ago after gold prices started to climb, the Proof issue is still there as of tonight and with spot at 1002.50 as I write this is about as good a deal as you will ever get on this coin, until, of course the bottom drops out of gold prices. :)

Sale prices of the 2007-W Silver American Eagles on ebay cooled a bit this week, there are a lot of auctions on them and I guess with the supply being adequate it was only time before they could be had for around $25. That is still a good premium over the Mint price of 21.95 for the Uncirculated.(sold out at Mint). Similar action on the Proof issue of the same coin. Of course graded coins bring higher prices but you pay a good bit to have them graded. Silver held steady in the 20.50 to 21.00 range during the week and the increase in spot prices should help increase the *ebay spot* of these coins.
