I am trying to get an idea of how much weight to give the suggestions provided by the "Big Dog" traders on Wallstreet such as Jim Cramer and the Fast Money traders. I know to take what they say with a grain of salt but when they make their buy/sell suggestions, how big should said grain be?

Track them and find out. There are various people that have done this. You can search for the results.

I like Cramer because he preaches fundamentals every time I've seen him.  Also, he does encourage long term investing and doing lots of research.  With that being said, I also monitor his buy/sell suggestions and do considerable research on his picks.  I can't remember what stock he recently told his viewers to hold, and how it would be idiotic to sell, and then the stock fell like a brick.

I have done quite well with Cramer's advice. I don't think you can blindly follow their advice, but if you research their reccomendations, (homework), I think they can be a good asset.
