I had to use my son's laptop for a couple of days and he uses GOOG Chrome. Much, much faster than Firefox and works well with TK. The only question is when to take the pain and switch from Firefox, all these bookmarks

Here is the TK FAQ on browsers
==================================================================================================== We actively test changes to the site with browsers in the following list, and prioritize issues that are encountered by their users:
The following browsers are generally compatible with our site and can be used on a regular basis. However, we do not regularly use them to test changes to the site:
If your browser is not listed above, that means it is currently unsupported, with the exception of IE 6. IE6 is a special case. We strive to maintain compatibility, but we will soon stop supporting it actively. Parts of the site, such as certain trading tools, will not support IE6. It is highly recommended that everyone who can upgrade either to IE8 or Firefox 3 should do so now. |

OF, as I have noted before, I use Foxfire (presently 3.5.5) as my default for TK, and simultaneously Safari for everything else. I have no problems with speed, everything is instantaneous, so I wonder whether the problem is the computer/internet service

I sent a chat to TK this morning. Apparently it was something the developers were working on as they were aware of the problem of posting to the forums w/ IE. It is corrected now. I am using IE to post this message. :-) |

Google Chrome... too cool. Now I can watch my wife's accounts and mine at the same time without logging in and out of the accounts.
Thanks for the mention, and it seems as fast or faster than IE. |

Just tried Chrome. I'm sticking with Firefox. I want to see the buttons in the toolbar at the top.
Speaking of software, I'm using Windows 7 now. It's pretty good. Like Vista, but less annoying. Setup was easy, and it hasn't crashed yet. |

I have been using Ultimate Vista since I built this computer. Never a problem with it, so won't be up?grading to Win7. I also use and will continue to use IE. Currently with Version 8. Love the tabbed browsing. Only problems I really seem to have with it are here on TK... interesting...
Happy Trading.../;) |

Beret, what's the problem speed? freezes? could it be the security levels here as opposed to other sites?

Still using XP on an old computer from ’03, it runs good but not a lot of memory, afraid it couldn’t handle some of the new OS’s. New to this, only downloaded Chrome because of the problems here, but so much faster than explorer, very surprising. |

So far, I notice a few improvements about Win7.
1) The desktop image changes periodically, rotating through a set of cool images. A small but nice change. 2) Setup was very surprisingly easy. Installed it on a newly-formatted RAID stripe, and everything worked immediately after install. I did not even have to download any drivers. 3) This only applies to a handful of people: Win7 is optimized to work with solid state disk drives, so you don't have to do a bunch of tweaking as with earlier OS's. 4) Easier to pin things to the start menu. Probably not enough reason for most people to upgrade from Vista, but maybe enough for computer enthusiasts. Only cost $150 for 3 licenses. |

The problem ISN'T with the browser. The problem is with TK. For instance, this morning I looked at my summary, and my holdings and my recent Activity. I went short on a stock yesterday, and it is NOT showing on either my Summary or my Holdings screens. Things like this are really starting to spook me about bookkeeping here. If an investor isn't right on top of their holdings, it could be possible to forget that you even shorted a stock, only to get a margin call down the line and be told you need to cough up several thousand dollars. This is NOT acceptable. |

Beret, if your trade has not showed up I would call TK first thing this morning. Is it possible you reviewed the order and then hit the account summary tab before actually submitting the order? I have done that on occasion. |

BD, this is not directed to you as an individual, but to all that it applies to:- using the forum to get a response from TK is the long way around. This is not a commerical, but they do answer the phone quickly, and almost always resolve problems in the first call. The problems that I have had poor response to are generally of two natures, first, problems with exchanges (like not seeing my orders reflected on the current market) and second, problems meshing my OS with TK's (the inability to post certain items). I certainly see a merit to posting problems because some are systemic and others are resolvable with the input of community members, but calling TK is the best way of dealing with individual problems.
Of course, I can't resist my constant rant, that not keeping your own set of books (EXCEL) is about the dumbest investment decision one can make. To depend on others to order your own financial life, whether it is mere record keeping or decision making of a more critical nature (buy/sell, at what price) is the height of folly. I believe we lost a friend a couple of months ago because she defaulted these choices to others. |

First, no, it is not possible that I reviewed and then didn't notice the order. The order was accepted.. executed and money was put into my cash account for the Short. It just did not show the short in my screens......until now. And as for contacting TK, I know they read these forums. Good a place as any to rant. Perhaps what I should have done is immediately requested that all cash in my account be sent to my bank, and then let them ask me where the borrowed funds for the apparently ghost short went to?... ;) And I don't just rely on them to keep the records. That is how I knew my order was executed. Every night, I do double checks on all of my orders for the day and do print screens of all that I see and keep those files as well. Just frustrates me when they can't maintain their own records. Happy Trading... /:) |
