I thought ken lewis didn't take any bonus or even salary this year.  imagine working for a full year with no pay.  granted, it won't kill him, but think about working for just one day and not being paid.

PRD, how much did Lewis make from the derivates market toward his bonuses over the last ten years?
That's been my point all along, banking executives have made more in a single year than most of us make in a lifetime, especially over the last ten years, I can't imagine their plight with having to settle for maybe what a middle class American makes in only half a lifetime for  a year or two while the rest of us sacrifice a way of life as a result of the fruits of their labor, the horror, the horror...

But let's not sidetrack this threads purpose, Unions pay too much, let's focus on that when we worry what our taxes pay for, never mind how we're going to deal with the upcoming slaughter of the middle class to the benefit of corporate profit in the realm of globalization.

If democrats continue to freeze more than 3/4th of all construction workers in the country out stimulus jobs, the pushback next November will mirror what you saw in New Jersey yesterday. They will be doing more than deer hunting.

People are just starting to see who is getting the money. The #1 question by far is "Where are the jobs?". American workers are starving as greedy unions go on strike for more money.

Blame Bush? Ask Corzine how that worked for him.

When unions get busy at the local level, they not only free up the crowded & unemployed labor force, but they also raise the bar, again, I'm no fan of unions.
But if you want to moan and groan about who's robbing us of tax money, I prioritize other things.

Your probably not going to win any popularity contests whining about unions getting advantages after what the entire country has just been put through and witnessing the taxes we spent go towards billions in bonuses for the perpetrators of the scandal from the get go.

We were robbed twice over.

If you can't understand that, and maybe see what I mean when I say you're fixating, obsessing over a problem that dwarfs the reality, I can't make it any more simple.

incubus,
You moan about 65,000 H1B visas while the construction industry has over 5 million workers. So you are talking about 4 million plus "open shop" construction workers.

I can't make it more simple for you. It is not an either/or thing. You can walk and chew gum. Try it.

BuyDow, let me put this in perspective,. (it's 85,000, by the way)
For the first time in the programs history, there are available H-1B slots still open, corporations have even slowed the imports, outsourcing, on the other hand has not slowed at all.

It's even too expensive to pay lowered wages to a non-citizen to live here with our costs....and your obsessed with unions who are at least attempting to keep wage standards up while we struggle with unemployment and the onslaught of defaults?

I get it, you don't think someone who's not as smart as you deserves to pay their bills, I get it, but if they aren't paying their bills, kiss your portfolio and the prosperity of America good bye and give it a hug, you won't be seeing it again for a very long time.

Think about it, healthcare and education alone are either free or substantially less expensive anywhere else in the world, not to mention various other costs that a corporation can shop around anywhere in the world to find ther most conviently lowest price.

Meanwhile back at the ranch, we're sitting around with our hands in the air, mystified at why unemployment isn't rebounding, exuberantly fascinated with the "incredible earnings" of corporations, applauding their "cost cutting measures" as they do what they are forced to doto beat the competition that's already doing it.

There is absolutely no question whatsoever that we need to see this problem eye to eye for what it is and deal with it, healthcare costs, education costs and the plethora of other expenses we have that can potentially return us to at least a better edge in the global work force...and all I hear is opposition, projection of blame and angry distraction from one main source when any efforts are made to correct this problem.

You're obsessed with unions as is the bulk of the GOP, we're on the highway with a flat tire and you're angry over a faulty windshield wiper.

Dear GOP, in this order:

1. Repair massive unemployment crisis before it returns us to a great depression by focusing on the cause and solution...or at least step off to the side and let Obama finish what he started.

2. Then obsess about overpaid union grunts that hurt the bottom line of your true, behind the scenes paychecks..

incubus,

To late for "Dear GOP"....the "Party of Blame" is in charge.

You can't sell that 3/4th of American construction workers frozen out of tens of billions of infrastructure spending is a good thing.

They couldn't sell "card check" so Obama did an end around.

You are so busy changing your tire that you don't se the truck careening towards you. City are starting to go bankrupt because of bloated union contracts. That is where most of the stimulus went to, so the pain was only felt in the private sector. Unfunded defined benefit pension plans will finish the job.
