China Beta?

I am trying to find a ready made Beta for the Chinese market. Anyone know where to find it?

Hi btolley,

I think it is 1.

There are three major US traded China ETFs.  Their tickers are: FXI, GXC, and PGJ.  Their betas (as measured over the last three years) are .9, .96, and 1.11 according to finance.yahoo.com.  So basically, The_Dude is correct.

Weird, Google finance =
NYSEARCA:PGJ Beta    1.44
NYSEARCA:GXC Beta    1.31
NYSEARCA:FXI   Beta    1.26

It looks like Google is using a different (likely longer) time period over which to measure beta.  But incubus makes a good point.  The exact measure of beta will be different depending on the time period over which is it measured and on the "market index" that is used.  In reality, beta does change over time, but if you're going to measure beta as a static variable, it is most appropriate to use a more "timely" time period to measure it (such as the last three years rather than ten for example) IMO.

The primary reason I observe Beta is for pair trading, estimating ratio's.

As long as I stick with comparative beta from the same source, not gonna sweat it.
