Thanks "OldFart,"
No kidding here, just speculation.
- Nov 10' California has "legalization of Marijuana" on it's ballot (1)
- 14 states have legalized the medicinal use of Marijuana(2)
- 12 states have decriminalized the non-medicinal use of marijuana(3)
- Estimated 10% of the country's GDP is generated from the black market(4)
The history of the
prohibition of Marijuana has been fought on two levels:
the federal and the state.
- The FDA wont claim Medical Marijuana is appropriate for medicinal use, keeping the federal laws strict.
- Yet states are passing laws that are liberalizing and decriminalizing Marijuana use.
There are a lot of factors that would and will affect this emerging market. There a lot of players that don't want the shift to happen, e.g. powerful lobbyist both within parent and pharmo groups. This is seen with every paradigm shift.
Look at the
introduction of VHS in 1976 the industry that profited the most from it was the porn
industry. No one else at that time saw the commercial value in the new technology.
