Medical Marijuana equities

Is anyone aware of any Medical Marijuana company (dispensaries, growers etc) that have gone public??? All the equities I've found are either OTC or Pink.....

Few I've been following:
  • Cannabis Science, Inc. (Public, OTC:CBIS)

  • INTL MERCHANT ADVISORS (Public, PINK:IMAI)

i think there is another one on the pink sheets - CVIV.PK. But you are kidding, right? I might be wrong however it is still a federal crime to grow and sell the stuff. Maybe one day there will be tickers like BONG and WEED

Thanks "OldFart,"

No kidding here, just speculation.

  • Nov 10' California has "legalization of Marijuana" on it's ballot (1)
  • 14 states have legalized the medicinal use of Marijuana(2)
  • 12 states have decriminalized the  non-medicinal use of marijuana(3)
  • Estimated 10% of the country's GDP is generated from the black market(4)

The history of the prohibition of Marijuana has been fought on two levels:
the federal  and the state.

  • The FDA wont claim Medical Marijuana is appropriate for medicinal use, keeping the federal laws strict.
  • Yet states are passing laws that are liberalizing and decriminalizing Marijuana use.
There are a lot of factors that would and will affect this emerging market. There a lot of players that don't want the shift to happen, e.g. powerful lobbyist both within parent and pharmo  groups. This is seen with every paradigm shift.

Look at the introduction of VHS in 1976 the industry that profited the most from it was the porn industry. No one else at that time saw the commercial value in the new technology.

In my speculative opinion, it would be the mainstream tobacco companies that would profit from a medicalization or full legalization of marijuana.  They have the land, the know how, the money, etc.

They would be likely to jump into legalized marijuana products quickly.

I held off on responding to this post because of concerns about the addition of an 'E' on CBIS's ticker. I contacted the company and found out that this was due to a late filing. This tardyness was due to problems with their accountant, not with the company itself. So now I can again reccomend it.

While medical Marijuana is still ilegal under federal law, the current administration anounced that it will not have the DEA pursue enforcement in those states with Medical Marijuana laws. Now, CBIS formulates Lozenges out of whole plant extracts. It is pursuing FDA approval for 2 different formulations, one for inflammation and another for PTSD. They will also seek approval for other treatments as Cannabis is a treatment for a wide variety of ills. If CBIS obtains FDA aproval (highly likely IMO), then these lozenges will be availible by presccription in all fifty states.

I reccommend this stock for those that are interested. The stock price has slowly dropped over the past few months, but I think it's about ready to spike again. Full disclosure, I own about 40,000 shares myself, and am in the process of picking up more.  I found the company to be very approachable, forthcoming, and friendly. If you contact them, tell them Weird Uncle Jesse sent you :-).

What phase are they in with the FDA?  When do they expect to get approval and begin commercial sales?  With an FDA approval would the state still need to have legalized medical marijuana in order for the company to sell its lozenges there?
